AvA making the video for 'Anxiety'

The band 'Angels & Airwaves' with Tom Delonge from Blink 182, have released a video for the making of their music vid 'Anxiety'. In this they talk about playing the song twice as fast, with the band performing twice as fast. When this is put in to real time, the footage has an amazing slow motion effect. This gave me the idea to add some slow motion to my band performance in my own music video.

FILMING

On Wednesday the 12th of October, I filmed the stage performance part of my video. With help of others I spent an hour and a half transforming the stage to my set.

insert images of stage setup

I wanted a 'raw' look and feel for the stage. In the test I liked having the lighting rig in camera, rather than hiding them from the stage. I also decided I didn't want to hide the 'on stage smoke machine' as I felt the clutter on the stage made it feel more atmospheric. Along with these, I placed guitar and bass amplifiers on the stage, and I plugged the guitar in to these.

Once we were all in costume, and everyone was ready to shoot, we did a sound check with the drummer. We altered the volumes of the music so that we could here the music without the drums drowning out all of the noise. To help this I placed speakers on the stage, playing the song loudly, and next to me.

I taught 2 students how to work the hand help smoke and wind machines, and instructed them at which points of the song I wanted smoke and wind on the stage.

My friend is highly knowledgeable on the lighting rig we had in front of the stage. I took my treatment to him, and  we talked through the story, and I told him how I wanted the lights to work.

Finally we were ready to shoot, and we were filming for about 4 hours, and this has left me with lots of stock footage to put towards my music video.

BLINK 182 ON GOOGLE+

This is Tom and Mark from blink 182, doing a live interview, that can be streamed on to anyone's computer. They have used Google+ to stream the interview, but have advertised the video via there Facebook.

SOCIAL MEDIA (MODLIFE)

This is Tom Delonge using Modlife to talk to fans via a webcam chat. At the time it would have been live, and  you can write Tom messages, that he will read and answer. This is how he keeps in contact with his fans.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND BAND MEMBERS

All 3 members of 'Blink 182' are keen users of social media and make an effort to contact there fans.

I use a site called 'Tumblr' which is a blogging site in which I follow Mark Hoppus, the bassist for blink. On Marks blog you can ask him questions, which he is keen to answer.

This is a screen print of when I spoke to Mark:

I asked him why Tom (the guitarist) kept wearing a Beanie, and Mark replied, 'No idea. he's a goth pizza chef?' So via Tumblr I have had direct contact with the band.
I also follow the band on Facebook, and get notifications of any new information on my facebook news feed.

Tom Delonge, the guitarist for blink 182, is also in the band 'Angels and Airwaves' For this he created a website called Modlife. Paying £7 a month for an account, Modlife offers the opportunity to talk to the band on a live webcam, and VIP tickets to meet the band at concerts. You can also customise your own Modlife page, and talk to other users who are fans of the band. It is almost like a social media site for all Angels and Airwaves fans. Tom also works on his own pieces of art work and posts them to members of the site.

Mark Hoppus is also a keen member of 'Google+' where he is able to stream live videos to anyone, and allow anyone to talk to him.

DIGIPACK

This is the album artwork for Neighbourhoods, the album in which 'Up all Night' is from:

Below is the artwork that was released  with the single 'Up all Night'

The theme for the album is about everyone from different neighbourhoods and places, all coming together.

When I try and create my art work, I could try and bring this feeling of together with the theme of the song, which is struggling and pulling through the hard times in life.
